I did a fishtail french braid ending in a HUGE bun on Sarah. She has super thick hair that is almost down to her waist so I had a lot to work with. I started by spraying in a little bit of HAIR.RESORT SPRAY to add grit and texture.  This helps to prevent the braid from slipping and falling. Next, I loosely backcombed the area I was going to braid again to add more texture to her surprisingly fine, straight hair. Then, I started braiding from the front right at her part.  Adding tiny sections (and bobby pins where needed) I continued to tightly braid down the rest of her hair.  Once the braid was complete, I secured it with a small clear hair tie and a few bobby to secure the extra hair.  There is no right or wrong way to create the bun.  All it took was a simple twist of the rest of Sarah’s hair and pinning it in place. I used SESSION.SPRAY (my favorite!) to finish and hold the look.  I love the way this turned it out and it’s definitely going on my top 10 list!  Keep this look in mind for wedding season…it’s around the corner!

Today I am doing a step-by-step explanation on how to do a waterfall braid. This style is very popular right now and actually quite simple to do!!!

1.  Grab a section on either the front left or right side of the head. (I used the right)

2.  Then I started to do a normal French braid.  It should be about 3 or 4 inches long. I did this to give the braid a solid base.

3.  Then I dropped the piece that was last braided from the top.  This piece is now the bottom strand that’s hanging.

4.  After you drop that section, you will grab another section directly behind the one you just dropped. You have to replace the section you dropped in order to continue the braid…there should be 3 sections total.  (Make sure the section you grab is about the same size as the one you just dropped!)

5.  Continue this pattern until you have the braid ending in the desired spot.

6.  Keep the braid tight or slightly loosen it with your fingers like I’ve done.

You can either have the braid go all the way to the other side of your head or another fun option is to have a braid start from each side and have them connect in the middle!  Add a cute hair accessory to hide where the braid ends!  Feel free to ask me if you have any questions!

For Katie’s hair I was inspired by this beautiful fishtail braid I found on Pinterest. I loved how the braid was loose so it can be both formal and casual. I started by taking all the hair (except for a few of the layered hairs on top) and bringing it over to the right side. I began to fishtail braid her hair with medium  size sections and continued to braid all the way down to the end of her hair securing it with a clear rubber band. (For a guide on how to create a fishtail braid check out my guide!)  I then took the hairs that were initially left out and loosely curled them to add some more texture. To complete the style I took the curled sections and loosely pinned them in place wherever they naturally fell. I love the simple, classy look of this braid! I hope you do too!!

For Savvy’s hair today I decided to do something super fun for little girls! This top hat is the most adorable accessory and it makes any style even cuter. Hair accessories are a very easy way to add to an everyday look (no matter what your age is!).  I created a simple look by loosely curling all of Savvy’s beautiful hair to add some movement.  The last step was adding a few bobby pins to keep the top hat in place!  So cute!!  Be sure to browse our selection of hair accessories for kids and for adults next time you’re in the salon!

For today’s blog I am going to explain how to do a fishtail braid step by step. A fishtail braid is so beautiful but can be difficult to learn. This should help!

1. Divide your hair into two large sections

2. Take a smaller section of hair from the outside of the left section

3. Cross it OVER the first section and add it UNDER the right section (the thicker the strand the simpler your braid will look and the thinner the strand the more detailed your braid will look…and the longer it will take!)

4. Take a smaller section of hair from the outside of the right section

5. Cross it OVER the first section and add it UNDER the left section

6. Repeat these steps until you’ve reached the end of your hair

7. Use a rubber band to finish off the braid This look takes some practice but it’s such a fun braid!! Good luck!

Doing Becca’s hair was a blast!! She wanted a hair color I don’t get to do often!!! For Becca’s hair we went with a fun, deeper shade of red. I wanted to avoid the whole fire engine red color and using a deeper shade would still allow me to achieve the look she wanted.  I used BES Color which has awesome shades of reds that last! Becca has very fine hair, and not very much of it, so to give her volume I used Kevin Murphy’s BODY.BUILDER (about a softball size), applying it first to the mid lengths and ends, and then going back and applying it to the roots as well. This product also makes hair more full and appear to be thicker. For a final touch, I added a pink extension on one side for an extra pop of color!

I was inspired for Katie’s hairstyle by this beautiful picture I found on Pinterest! I started by curling her hair with my straightener to create a medium size curl. I began curling at the nape of her neck in sections and worked my way up to the top. Once I had completed all the curls, I locked in the wave using Kevin Murphy’s SESSION.SPRAY. Next, I began by taking small sections starting at the front on both sides and twisting them back.  Notice I have the right side going further to the left so the final look is off center.  I pinned a few individual curls that were twisted back to cover the gap where the two sides connect for a cleaner look. This style is very versatile, it can easily be dressed up for the evening or dressed down with some cute skinny jeans and heels!!

Today, I was inspired by one of the big trends for Spring: a 20’s style flapper roll.  I like the way it was done in Christian Dior’s Spring collection and decided to base Katie’s style on it.  Working from the front, I started on the right side of Katie’s head and twisted her hair (rolling upwards) into two sections. I secured the twists with a few bobby pins. I then combined the two sections and continued to roll as I worked my way to the back of her head. I then repeated the same step- working from the front- on the other side. Once the front section was all twisted, I started working on the back of her hair. I rolled the hair upwards and hid the very ends of her hair in the twist.  I added a few extra bobby pins to secure everything in place and sprayed Kevin Murphy’s SESSION.SPRAY for a strong hold!  This style is great for a professional…but it’s also great for just a casual day!

I did it!! I finally was brave and cut my hair short! I put a before and after picture so you could have an idea of how much we cut off!! I always said, “One day I will be brave and cut my hair short!” and it finally happened!! We went for an A-line cut which is always fun! In this style the back is a little shorter and it gradually gets longer in the front.  Krista started by using a razor along the bottom to give it a more texturized rough look. She then went in and layered it with shears and texturized it for a more grown up style! We did this because as you can tell I look like I’m in high school, and let’s face it.. I need all the help I can get looking like an adult!! We kept my layers longer but framed my face and kept my side bangs. For styling, Krista added a softball size amount of Kevin Murphy’s BODY.BUILDER to the mid lengths and end of my hair, and sprayed a little ANTI.GRAVITY SPRAY at my roots. She then began to blow dry my hair until it was 85-90% dry and then began to use a medium size round brush. We finished the style with some EASY.RIDER to add shine and smooth to my hair, POWDER.PUFF at the roots for volume, and SESSION.SPRAY for the last touch! I hope you all like it as much as I do!!

For Chloe’s hair I did a great everyday style, and of course one of my favorites.  A blowout, but the goal for this time around was thick full hair!! Chloe has very fine hair, so first I washed her hair with Kevin Murphy’s ANGEL.WASH and ANGEL.RINSE. After towel drying her to get out a lot of the moisture I used BODY.BUILDER.  BODY.BUILDER comes in a moose form and helps make individual hair thicker and the all over hair result more full. The great thing about BODY.BUILDER is even though it is a moose it doesn’t make your hair hard, or crunchy. Which is great for avoiding that “my hair still looks wet” when its wet, when its shiny and crunchy looking. So you do not have to worry about going overboard which is always easy to do with styling product!!! I used about a palm full of the moose and began to work it in my fingers, and put it in Chloe’s hair not at the roots, but throughout the ends. After working it through the mid length and ends I used the remaining BODY.BUILDER at her roots. I noticed the results of this product right away!!! It gave Chloe’s hair lift and made her hair look more thick instantly! Her hairs volume almost doubled by using one product!! I would reccomend this product to anybody with thin finer hair, who wants more body!!!

Come in and get your BODY.BUILDER today!!!

Today’s experiment was super fun!! This seems a little crazy to do but it looks great in the end! I started by separating her hair into 3 sections: one on either side of her head and a larger section in the back. Next I sprayed Kevin Murphy’s HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY into all the sections and began tying knots starting from the bottom working my way up. After I tied all the knots I dried each individual knot to lock in the wave. I blasted it with heat for about 15 minutes total and then let them cool for about 10 minutes. Once they were all cooled, I untied the knots and was amazed at how beautiful of a wave it created…it’s such a great messy, beach wave look!!  I finished her hair off with a cute braid on the side, added a little SESSION.SPRAY, and she was ready for the day!!
